I'm of the opinion that Hill ends up the BYU HC....but via a roundabout method, not simply replacing his boss
Here's my thoughts
In a year or two,
- Kyle Whittingham retires
- Morgan Scalley becomes the new Utah Head Coach
- Jay Hill becomes the new Utah DC. This will upset people to think about, but Utah likely pays more, plus Hill is a Ute at heart (played there and then coached over a decade there). Eventually he could become a BYU guy (same way Whittingham has become a Utah guy), but it's not a quick thing
- Lots of our top defensive players (including some who are coming in this year) go with Hill to Utah (realities of the transfer portal)
- Utah (buoyed by the extra talent from BYU and the leftover culture from Whitt) has a couple strong seasons
- BYU (reeling from the loss of defenders) has a couple down seasons
- BYU moves on from Kalani and hires Hill as head coach, away from Utah
