If Connor Pay really did speak up to Kalani about Funk and Kalani blew that off, do you really think Pay is going to stick around when he knows his HC doesn't care? If you feel like your boss is 100% undermining you and keeping your manager who is terrible... you'd be out of there pretty quickly.

With the portal, NIL, Connor's skill, etc. he wouldn't have a hard time finding a good to great program to land at.

Yes, I know he was close to leaving. But he didn't. He still feels good about playing for Kalani.

This isn't just a Connor Pay situation either. We continually get more out of the portal than we lose (so far) in the new world of Portal and NIL. Our players, especially the good ones, aren't trying to leave the program because of an inept HC. I know we still call these players "kids" but we shouldn't underestimate them. They've been playing sports for a really long time, they've seen great on and off-field leaders, they've all seen great coaches, and at least for the RMs they've experienced even more leadership.

So the fact the vast majority of our players are staying and playing must say something about the job Kalani is doing. And no, players don't just stay around because they "like" their head coach or that he is a good "figurehead" or "cheerleader." Players stay with coaches who are competent at their job AND good people.

This is truly a topic that I think the majority of CB has wrong. We opine about a lot of things here and many times there is at least smoke.

Where are players showing a lack of trust in their head coach, his abilities, and how he is directing the program?
