I agree that is is a rural Utah thing. I have heard it in small towns in Cache Valley (I used to joke about it being a Wellsville accent: were you barn in a born? Throw the apple car out the core window. . .) Is is also found in many other smaller towns (Sanpete County) and even down in St. George. I wonder if it is more influenced by the Scandinavian immigrants? It is common in Southern Idaho as well. It is more prominent in the older generation. You can hear some of it in my wife's family and she grew up in Murray. Remember that most of Utah consisted of small towns 40 years ago. My FIL grew up next to Wheeler Farm, and it was farm country then.

My favorite is "the torlet."
