Most AV receivers cannot convert analog (component) to digital (HDMI)
Unless it is a very high cost receiver. I have had to run both sets of cables to my tv.

It's not high end - Yamaha rx-v475. It's newer with good features it.

Yeah, it is kind of a pain but I have since switched to all HDMI inputs

We have our Wii RCA cables go to the TV and then back to the receiver.
