My experience was this as well
I also taught grad school for several years before getting into upper management of a business. The more education the better foundation you can build on. I prefer those that are "over-educated" for their position. Because I can develop them as leaders and strategic thinkers much faster than those that trained to their position.

Training simply teaches you how to do something.

Education teaches you why that something even needs to be done. It also give you the analytical framework to question the idea of needing that thing.
