Are you saying that there would be a tax consequence on the principal amount on the 401k to move it to a Roth, but no tax consequence on the gains?
I thought that 401k was set up to be tax free going in, but everything got taxed once you got it out (either by converting or by cashing).
Maybe I am just misunderstanding what you are saying?
