The Sparta Team won 7 titles, not 6.

At Regionals, last year they made it to the Championship Match in Hawaii and lost 2-1 to FRAM. The team usually breaks out its pool and makes it into the second round (quarters, semis, finals) at Regionals and other out-of-state tournaments. The team has also made it to the Finals at Surf College Cup, won Harvest Cup, the Las Vegas College Showcase, and done very well against California Teams. In the Las Vegas College Showcase two years ago, the Sparta team beat three California teams, including the top Surf team a year older which was ranked in the top ten teams in the country.

The Sparta Team also won the Disney Showcase 3 years ago against several top-ranked East Coast Team. The Sparta Team has been ranked as high as 11th in the country, but those rankings depend on how many highly ranked tournaments they play. There are few highly ranked tournaments in Utah. Winning State Cup gives you 500 points. Becoming a semi-finalist in an out-of-state tournament can give you thousands of points.

In short, the team has done well at Regionals and in out-of-state tournaments.

The BYU goalie this year will be Hillary Smith Kafusi. She is supposed to be pretty good but is untested after playing back up to Erica Owens. Next year BYU is getting a keeper from Colorado who has played on various national teams in her age group. Also, next year, former collegiate All-American, Rachel Boaz, who played for San Diego before going on an LDS mission will play for the Cougars when she returns from her mission. Paige Hunt will be returning as well. This team should be good for the next, several years.
