There is a comment that suggests that. Vai certainly didn't do him any favors.
It would have been better if he had been able to return from his mission, do his due diligence, make his decision, and then announce one time.

Perhaps Langi did give Vai permission to go public, but in hindsight it would have served all parties better, including Utah, if the story had been held until the decision was final. Then if he chooses the Y, he can explain his reasons one time, endure a few days of backlash, and move on. As it is, I truly feel for him. With the closeness of the Poly community and the sensitive way they try to interact with each other, I'm sure it's particularly hard on him.

I hope he's a Coug. But now I just hope he finds a little peace. For those who will say he's made his own bed...yea...so what? That doesn't preclude having compassion and if he has made any mistake it's a mistake that impacts him personally 95% and the other schools in question about 1% each. None of us really know all of the facts and as such, what we offer should be compassion and understanding, not venom and ridicule.
