There's a difference between running up the score and just continuing to let the players play. When you see Oregon, Bama, and other teams around the country put up 60, if they really wanted, they could probably put up 80.
The thing is, teams aren't afraid to beat up on us. We get embarrassed by Utah, FSU, etc but we're not allowed to fight back? If we had the chance to beat those guys 50 or 60-10 I'd take it in a second. Better than doing what they normally do which is just what you said, get all conservative and then call it quits by halftime. You don't have to push and push to keep scoring, but you've gotta let them keep playing.
If the final score against a big name school happens to be 60-14, that's their problem, not ours. Shows we deserve to play with them. No sympathy from us when we don't get near the bonuses in coaching or recruiting.
