Not sure how often the president st BYU-H changes but when I was on my mission (2007-09) I heard they gt a new president who was from BYU-I and he was making a lot of changes, especially to the dress code ie no shorts, flip flops, or hawaiian shirts for teachers, that people didn't like even to the point that a lot of local teachers were quitting. So to me, taking away sports isn't a surprising move but I don't know how accurate my earlier info is.
