Just saw this post and thought I'd throw in my recommendations
I go out night fishing for bass several times during the summer and have pretty good success. Normally I fish with rubber worms (7" YUM ribbon tails FTW), but never have success at night with a rubber worm. I think this is probably because the bass can't see the worm at night, and you're relying mostly on their sense of smell to try to catch them.

I have much better luck using some type of topwater floating lure that makes lots of noise, and then ease it along with a lot of stops and starts. It's an absolute blast. I usually take out a little 12' aluminum boat, and you sit there in the dark with everything perfectly quiet and still until the bass hit the lure and the water explodes and scares the crap out of you.

This is the type of lure I have the best luck with night fishing for bass: http://www.basspro.com/Heddon-Torpedo-Hardbaits/product/2912/?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&om_mmc=shopping_googleproductextensions&kpid=2912%26adc=pg_315_11128_5282c139e4b006f67e95eea9_48257990191
