Very few national media types have much of a clue about BYU's situation.
Heck, we even have local rock-head media wondering when BYU will shut down athletics. The truth is that BYU would indeed be better off in a P5 conference. Everyone gets that. What few seem to realize is that BYU is in a much greater position than any other non-P5 program. Too many look at the group-of-five automatic access slot to one of the good bowl games as proof that BYU would be better off back in the MWC or whatever. No way BYU should give up ESPN, all that money, and the little bit of extra prestige that comes with not being a member of one of those lesser conferences just for the opportunity to play in a better, but still non-playoff, bowl game. BYU has a better shot at an actual playoff spot than any other non-P5 program because we're on TV a lot and play more big name teams due to ESPN/independence.

So, let's enjoy what we do have while we look forward with hope for the future. If BYU can win, and win often - building back up the brand that took such a hit during the MTN days of obscurity - then we'll be well situated when realignment kicks back up, which it will, eventually. College football will not remain the same forever. If history teaches us anything, it's that college football will continue to change. BYU will eventually get another shot at a big conference, and independence is a great place to grow our value and prove our worth.

Let's get this team back in the rankings, and the advantages of independence will become more obvious to more people.
