And in the 1800's about polygamy, and in the 1830's and 1840's about the church in general. This thing will work out for the team. I am confident. "The church will fail" "Polygamy will kill the church" etc. Has been shouted for generations. I believe the program will survive and thrive. If I were a wild betting man, I'd say the pac-12 eventually lets BYU in. It makes geographic and financial sense for them. I think having so many teams on the schedule from their conference will at least show them that we bring money. It may not change their attitude quickly, but I think it will eventually move in that direction.

I sort of see it as a comparison to when the church was able to build a temple in East Germany in the early 1980's. Almost nobody thought it could be done. BU Football has had it's moral and on the field ups and downs, but I think the missionary force behind it has been a great success. Heck, even some on this board who no longer have anything else to do with the church are connected to BYU football. I believe this to be a positive. Better to have a small connection to the church rather than none. Some of the most bitter apostates I have spoken with still follow and cheer for BYU. Many athletes have come and joined the church,, or at least become a better person and friend of the church, spreading good about it to others after their time here. I know others have departed with a bit of a bad taste in their mouth before, but in my mind, any publicity is good publicity for the church. It is not always positive, but it allows others to be curious and find out about the church. BYU football has helped move that along, and I think it will continue to be used for that as long as it is working. I do think we will eventually be at the P5 table. Either by conference expansion, or by them including us in that lot.
