I'm with coolcats ^^^^^ The profit margins on extended warranties
are typically ridiculously high. That is why a lot of companies sell them so hard. It isn't about service. On average, over the course of your life, you will come out way ahead not buying extended warranties. Besides, a car of that year and mileage should still have the powertrain warranty coverage (I'm guessing it is 5 years) . So any really expensive costs should still be covered for awhile under the manufacturers warranty.

Yes, there will be individual cases where you wish you had bought the extended warranty, but I'm actually surprised how many people on this board are recommending them.

IMHO, you are best of self insuring when possible. Insure only catastrophic losses.
