Multiple occasions too? Interesting. It's not a stretch to see it though, a lot of fans see BYU football as sort of a "crusade" for the church. I think a lot of people (wrong or not) feel validated or vindicated based on BYU winning or losing. Like most sports fans, we irrationally tie our sports to our emotions and our being, to who we are and what we represent. When you consider that it's no surprise that BYU fans often take the team pretty seriously.
