If he is really sorry and is willing to deal with the consequences of a mistake but asks for leniency, then I can see choosing Texas instead of UConn. However, it is better for the team if he sits vs. UConn and plays vs. Texas. You don't wait until after the Texas game; that's the kind of weak, so-called discipline that other coaches engage in.
If he is defiant and doesn't think you have the stones to suspend him for this game, you give him a wake-up call.
