Any athlete who truly loves the game they play does this. Do you know how many pitchers argue with managers about coming out of a game? They do it all the time. It's not them being selfish and putting themselves above he team. It that they really think they can push through and deliver.
It's on the coaches to make the correct decisions. Not the player.
