They wanted to contain him and force him to throw.
Sounds weird, because if they wanted him to throw most teams would stack the box. Instead of rushing him with 4-5, they rushed 3 and placed a 1-2 spies designed to contain the edges if he were to run. I think "dropping 8 into coverage" is accurate, but 2 of those 8 were watching Taysom the whole time. I guess it was an attempt to hinder both the passing and running game by Taysom. Didn't work, obviously.

Last year that may have worked because Taysom sometimes struggled to pass and our OL sucked, so rushing 3 may have been sufficient to force mistakes.

The problem is that if you have a good OL and a QB that makes good decisions, there is no real answer to defending this offense. Stack the box and the QB can beat you over the top if he has time. Rush 3 and you open up the short passing game and allow opportunities for big runs.

At least that's how I see it.
