So ESPN can have a national college game to show that night

and promote the start of the conference games with a couple of exciting teams. ESPN calls the shots when it comes to the WCC schedule. It had to be their call. There are no other college basketball games of note that night. There are bowl games on ESPN, but for anyone who wants college basketball, Gonzaga at BYU will be on in a prime slot.
