Coach Howell is a dear friend of mine, and I have known him since before pre-school. The guy is awesome, but he is a pretty straight shooter. He is much like Coach Mendenhall, and will say what is needed. Of course, he is not going to give out his entire defensive plan to the public. Why should he? When they game plan for each opponent, they prepare for every possible situation and player that could possibly play. When asked if they were going to change their plan, he replied with a very honest answer. They always prepare for both dual threat QBs, and more of the traditional QBs; and adjust in game to what is happening. They always prepare for the possibility of a major player going down, and for what the replacement player will be. BYU has always had a solid defense since Bronco took over and gave Nick more authority. He knows that he has prepared his players to follow the schemes that have made them a top 10 defense each year, and is confident that the other team will be forced to adjust their game plan to what BYU's defense throws at them. Coach Howell is a great guy, and would not need to lie or be dishonest about something as simple as what you are asking.
