on a very consistent basis. From Gary Sheide to Ty Detmer, we really were a "QB factory." We cannot make that claim today. Back in the 80s it seems like we were in the top 10 (at some point in the season) several times. We used to kill Utah 9 out of 10 years until McBride came along and narrowed the disparity between the two teams.
Where those 80s teams failed, in my opinion, was in preparing BYU for bowl games. Bronco's teams perform better in bowl games than LaVell's teams. Anyhow, it's tacky to use formal Church settings to poke fun of BYU. When I grew up, the editor of our ward newsletter used to write negative things about BYU routinely. Growing up where I did in SLC just made me see where the jeering towards BYU was really coming from--the great and spacious building on the hill. And like Lehi, I heeded them not.
