My pointless Season ticket / attendance story
I grew up in the shadow of Cougar Stadium to the point that as a kid I knew there was a home game because the do not park on the street sign would go up in front of my house. My parents were not sports fans and so it didn't get very exciting for them to the point they would spend the money for them. They would buy me a couple bags of popsicles though and that was all I needed. In those days nothing was televised. I would sit out in front of the house and sell all the popsicles and when they were gone I would start walking to the game. $20 and holding your 2 or 3 fingers in the air could get you and your brothers into about any game you wanted, especially during deer hunting season. There were literally tickets left on the ground. On rare occasions we had to do the walk of shame because we couldn't find tickets but most of the time we got in. I loved it.

One year I convinced my mom that if she would order them I would pay for the "faculty" season tickets. I had arrived I was now a season ticket holder. Wow was that a disappointment. That section of the stadium was horrible at least back then. Nobody seemed to cheer. Everybody was so critical. Yuck I never wanted to be a season ticket holder again after that.

There were a few games I knew I had to order in advance. Ty vs Miami is the one that comes to mind. I had prime seats too what an experience. I have never heard a stadium so loud in all my life. (Including the NBA finals)

Well when I became a student I thought this is great I can get student season tickets and Cheap. My BYU football experience changed at that point my eyes were opened to the social event that was BYU football games. The Student section was a mix of fans and socialites and their roommates. If I was looking for the game day experience that revolved around living and dying on 3rd down conversions I didn't find it there. I still loved the game but some of the games magic got swallowed up in the game that was happening at BYU between the guys and gals in the stands.

I graduated and got married and moved on went though some poor times where even if I wanted to watch games on TV they were not there (Thanks the mtn) and I couldn't afford them anyway. When BYU came around which was next to never I saved a few bucks and went. If I were to move back to Utah I would for certain buy season tickets it is not about TV or price now that I have been away I want to have this back. I have some great memories at BYU football games, far fewer Memories watching BYU football games on TV.

I remember they used to shake keys at the refs, They used to sell hotdogs with yellow napkins. Every time there was a bad call thousands of yellow napkins came out into the air. We used to take tortillas into the stadium and fling them into the air. The stadium announcer would always explain that people were being hurt by corn tortillas. After PATs and Field goals they used to throw the ball around the stadium.

I guess my point in the endless rambling is that there are billions of ways to spend your life. For my time and money, given the opportunity, going to the Stadium and watching football is sure to create a life of good wholesome fun. There are awesome things only to be seen at the stadium for people of all ages.
