From the interview it sounds like he wasn't fired, but they wouldn't promote him
to the senior position. He says that he wanted the senior position, so he chose to leave instead.
For Walmart, it may have been about avoiding potential negative PR. I don't know if you want it getting out that the person in charge of all of your corporate communications isn't honest.
