Advertising presents more unique depictions per hour than does TV programming.
And these depictions/characters adhere more closely to the findings I posted above than do the characters portrayed in television programming. Commercials are also more contemporary, on average, than the programming you see. You may, for example, watch re-runs that are decades old, but the commercials shown during those re-runs were all most likely produced in the last two years.

If you want to see the current state of gender portrayal and the most current trends, focus on the advertising shown during programming.
