IMO, the best comparison to UVA 2014 is not FSU 2009. It's UVA 1999.
Raise your hand if you remember that game.

We opened up 1999 with awesome back-to-back ESPN wins against Washington and Colorado State. CSU was one of conference favorites that year and we destroyed them. We started to get some serious national buzz because the rest of our schedule looked pretty manageable. We had a shot to run the table and possibly be the first BCS busters.

UVA was decent, but not great. They finished 7-5 and got absolutely destroyed in the ever-prestigious Micron PC Bowl. Unfortunately, one of those seven wins was against us.

Our D couldn't stop them and they had a 21-0 lead before half of us had even sat down. From there, we actually outplayed them, but could never climb all the way back. A couple of questionable calls didn't go our way and we lost by five. Totally took the wind out of our sales.

The setup to that game reminds me an awful lot of this season. I think the outcome will be different this time around, though.
