I'm an internist and this is a pretty good summary.

If you are older and have chronic illnesses like heart or lung disease I would go to an internist. If you are younger and more healthy and looking for someone for general checkup stuff for you and your family then I would go to a family practice doc.

GP or FP pretty much the same. Internest is a bit more specialized.
