Sound travels approximately one foot per millisecond. When you put speakers in multiple locations it has to be very strategic to avoid a time smear between systems that would make it hard to hear no matter what the volume. They could have placed the speakers around the field firing upwards, but the sound would be very uncomfortable to all around field level in order for those up top to have a satisfying experience. They could have placed speakers in the air so that the average distance from speaker to fan was pretty uniform, but it would mess up the line of sight. Hence, we get what we get and it actually works pretty well when you consider it is a world of compromises.
