Without question, BYU could be far, far better in the pre-game
tailgating tradition. BYU has nothing on the SEC, Big 12 or other major universities when it comes to tailgating. I have to say that it has improved at BYU in recent years, with the reservation of space at the MC for tailgating. However, it still has a long, long way to go. Who attending the BYU/Oklahoma game and did not come away incredibly impressed with how those Oklahoma fans partied before and after the game? Awesome stuff. And what about Notre Dame? All the tradition, with the campus wide open for visitors and activities like the men's chorus, the band playing at one area of the campus, people lining the streets waiting for the band to march into the stadium like people waiting for a parade at Disneyland. And ND has food booths all over the campus to accommodate the hordes of people visiting. That is an amazing place.

BYU has done more to introduce traditions, like the team's walk to the stadium, the fan area west of the stadium, and the MC tailgate mentioned above. I think BYU will continue to do more as it continues to play away games at venues like Ole Miss, Texas, Wisconsin, et al and experiences the game day experience that just is unlike anything in the Mountain West.

Our family loves BYU game days. We get together early and either tailgate or have some lunch at our hotel room before going to the game. We love to soak up the atmosphere. We also are among the last to leave, never in a hurry to beat the traffic, never leave early (even when BYU was getting pummeled 54-10 at home). We take lots of pictures every game and want to savor the journey and moments.
