Facts and questions:
I think everyone agrees that 2010 - 2013 were not as good as 2006 - 2009. An important question is should we expect 11 win seasons every year? From '86 - '05 double-digit win seasons were definitely the exception. Should we have run Edwards out of town in the late 80's/early 90's for the program declining under him?
My take:
I would love double digit wins every season. I love undefeated seasons. But I am not ready to run the coach out of town based on his full body of work, even though the past 4 seasons have not been as good as the truly exceptional 4 before them. To me 2002 - 2005 win levels are when it is time to start considering a change.
Hoping BYU has some magical seasons sprinkled in, (1996 anyone?) like this year was lining up to be before Taysom went down. What do 2006 - 2009 look like if Beck and Hall went down? 1984 with no Bosco? 1983 with no Young? 1996 with no Sark? Get through brutal September and 2015 could be a special one. Also looking for the average number of wins to trend upward.
This season feels a lot like 1992 and 2000 where BYU was forced to start their 3rd string QB midway through the year. A lot of bad luck with injuries in '92, '00 and '14. Stewart was basically 3rd string before Ammon Olsen transferred. Those 2 years ended with 8 and 6 wins with a legendary coaching staff at the helm. Hopefully, this year is better than 6 wins.
