I'm sure we will see improvement. But let's face it: freshmen will take a bit
of time to develop the technique and strength necessary to get the job done. This doesn't happen over the course of one or two weeks. It's a process. Right now, our younger star recruits are getting their hats handed to them. But it's not because they aren't talented. It's just going to take some time. We also have some newly-returned missionaries getting a lot of playing time in the front seven, and they're going to need some time as well. Guys like Rowley will be much better next year. Langi will be a monster with a bit more time to get his body going, and to learn how to play linebacker properly. Lots of promise there.

Anyway, there's just a bunch of little stuff with a bunch of players that is adding up to bad overall defense. It will get better, though, even if no changes are made to the coaching staff. And, of course, coaching is part of the problem. Howell just isn't as good of a DC as Bronco is, and he probably never will be as good. So, we're automatically going to be worse on defense without Bronco in charge. Bronco is an elite defensive football coach, so it's a shame that we're not using him in that capacity.
