I saw Miss State use it really well on Saturday
The difference is that the RB ran up field about 2 yards before the pass was thrown and was not behind the LOS. Tried to get the OLB to commit faster. That subtle move created more space for the QB to either run it, or for the receiver to get more up field once caught.
So the receiver started in the flat, but went up field to create space. Worked way better.
