Strategic decision: Need to maximize attendance, not revenue
The BYU admin, as well as most other admins, have decided to maximize revenue when it comes to football, not maximize attendence. I think that works for other teams, but I don't think that works for BYU. We need to pump up our attendance by expanding the stadium and offering cheap seats. One of our big differences with other G5 schools is that we have a much larger stadium. However, many P5 stadiums are bigger. We need to boost attendence back up to further differentiate from both the G5 and the bottom of the P5. I think it is a strategic investment - less money now, more money later.

The administration should really push for a top-25 attendance, then make a big deal out of it. Last year we were #28. A relatively small expansion of 10K would land us comfortably in top 25 range, and often in the top 20. Increasing attendance when all the other teams are losing attendance is a sure way to get more attention. It gives us a way of "buying" our way in to the P5 talk. If we average in the mid 75K range that could give us more attendance than any Pac-12 team. USC averaged 73,126 last year.

We need to push for more attendance, not more revenue. If we are serious about P5, this gives us another way to get into the discussion.
