fwiw...i was golfing yesterday from a guy who works for directv...
i asked him what i could do to get my bill down short of just switching to a different provider.

here's what he said:

call in and go through the keypad like you are going to discontinue your service. at some point, you call will be forwarded to the "loyalty department." nothing happens until you get to the loyalty department because those people are paid on commission based on retaining customers.
