he would have remained HC. At that point the scandals were just icing on the cake. He was coming back in 2005 if they had a good season. And he wouldn't have been fired if not for the 3 consective losing seasons. He had essentially lost all the momentum from 2001 and the program's trajectory was not looking good at all.
