Jimmer should easily have had eight assists per game?
We might be remembering a different Jimmer era. The Jimmer era I remember was Davies being the only threat in the post and guys not named Jackson bricking a lot of clean looks from three set up by the defense collapsing on Jimmer. Hartsock and Jackson seemed to be the only guys that could reliably knock down an open jumper. Jimmer handled the ball a lot, because he had to. When Jimmer came out, Jackson could not keep the dribble alive, guys stopped moving, and BYU would quickly fall to pieces. BYU scored a lot of points and won a lot of games with Jimmer passing up all those easy dishes.

Haws is great off the ball, but he cannot handle the ball. For all of Matt Carlino's faults, he was the best at getting the ball to Haws in position to score. Their timing was very good, especially on back cuts and curls. I don't know if the guy to fill that role is going to be Halford or Collinsworth this year, but if Haws is having to create his own shots like we saw when Carlino was benched last year, he will be less effective. Teams are going to try gimmicky crap like USF's box-and-one, manning up on Haws with their best defender and daring any BYU player to drain an outside shot.

This is not going to be a surprise to Haws or the BYU coaching staff. WIthout a post threat and questionable outside shooters, BYU is going to run at every opportunity. Again, teams like SMC did a better job getting back in transition last season. Haws is smart enough and polished enough to get his 25 a game, but I'm not seeing that translate into a lot of wins this year.
