Should BYU lead the way to creating a new division in football?
From the BYU VP comments, it sounds like BYU isn't interesting in entering the every increase arms race that is college football. If it truly involves into a high stakes game of paying the player large stipends and is all about the money and no direct to academics or the NCAA, I can see BYU not wanting to be a part of that. One reason I love college football is that these are student athletes that have been held to certain academic standards and the loyalty to the school.

I think the P5 will continue to separate themselves from the rest of the world, dumping the NCAA and basically becoming minor league football for the NFL. Plus I can see not all the P5 schools being on board with that either.

It makes me wonder if BYU should lead the charge in creating a new division that still is tied to the NCAA and continue the values of the true student athlete. I'm guessing all the non-P5 schools would be on board and that you could find several current P5 that aren't traditional football powerhouses and have strong academics that would like be on board. I'm all guessing the current P5 will get even smaller in the future as they try and go for all the money and prestige and get rid of the programs that don't want to or can't keep up with their spending.
