^^^ Bingo! His defense is not great, but it's not abysmal. The real problem...
...is his inability to confidently handle the basketball, bring it up court, and run the offense. It's as if there's blood in the water, and defenders prey on him when he has the ball. He could be a more effective ball-handler if he had confidence and a longer leash to work with (and got some experience as a PG). Austin Rivers is getting a lot of playing time ahead of Jimmer because he can handle the ball. Rivers can't score and doesn't contribute much offensively, but he's not a liability at the guard position in terms of ball-handling.

I feel that if Jimmer was told that he'd get 25 minutes per game for four games straight - no matter what happened - that he'd likely play with more swagger, confidence, and get into his rhythm. As long as it's 4 minutes every fourth game, he'll never develop into a better player. I think he could be the next Jeremy Lin if he was given the chance to play.
