Again, what do the spiritual aspects of BYU and Bronco's promotion of those
aspects have to do with his performance as coach? How does Bronco's promotion of the spiritual aspects of BYU negatively affect the product on the field?

The answer is it doesn't. The real answer to problems seen on the field is found with the COACHING. Actual football reasons for mediocre football results. There is nothing that Bronco could change with respect to his promotion of the spiritual aspects of BYU that would result in any better product on the field. However, there is plenty that Bronco could change in how he performs his coaching duties that may well result in different product on the field.

Why there is sooo much focus on Bronco's support of the spiritual mission of BYU is beyond me. This is BYU, after all, and Bronco is the most visible person at BYU. Of course the unique aspects of BYU are going to be outwardly supported by him. Other coaches may choose to take a lower-key approach, but that doesn't automatically make them better coaches. It's irrelevant.

And, by the way, none of the unique aspects of BYU ought to be used as any kind of excuse for coming up short on the field. Every coach everywhere is expected to maximize the advantages they have as a program while figuring out ways to minimize any disadvantages. And BYU has a ton of advantages to go along with some challenges.

Holmoe and the rest of the administration are aware of the various advantages and challenges, and they know what to demand from their coaches. They aren't sitting around thinking everything is just fine with the football program just because Bronco is vocal about the spiritual stuff. Nope. They know we need to win, and win a lot. They know they have a demanding fan base. They understand that we have a precarious position in college football, and that we also have a great opportunity to move the program forward with the exposure that ESPN/independence brings. And, they're used to winning, just like we are, and they like it. If Bronco can't get the program pointed in the right direction again, there will be a change at some point. And then the next guy will be expected to promote the unique aspects of BYU while also producing a strong product on the field. That's just the way it is for a football coach at BYU.
