You cant have your hat in the ring without some level of contact (ie interveiw)
having happened. By your measure I took my hat out of the ring for the Ole Miss job last year. It just didn't seem like a good fit for me. This year I plan on taking my hat out of the ring for the Utah job because I just don't want to coach up there.
Seriously though - do you really think that Bronco made a statement about staying at BYU out of think air? Common sense would say that they were very interested in him and there had been at the very least a preliminary interview.
