Want to hear something awesome?
at one of my last places of employment, we had an IT team of 6. Well lets just say our subset was 6. 6 Guys who were in charge of 2000 servers. Our job was to build operating systems on all these machines, and then customize each machine with whatever application stack or set of applications that were needed. Then we attached them to big storage arrays. Then we troubleshot all and every issue that would come up. It was extremely busy, time consuming job. Much more work than 6 people could do. Well, in our it managements infinite wisdom they decided to outsource to ACS/Xerox. They thought this was a great idea, and they followed us around for 3 months and tried to write down what we did. They sold our management on some sort of deal to save them MILLIONS. Then they laid off 5 of us. I took a package and came back to Utah. 2 years later. IT WAS A ROARING FAILURE. Every customer was royally upset. They missed most deadlines. It cost way more than projected. In fact, it failed so bad, they RIPPED out Xerox ACS and tried to hire all the old guys back. Nobody would go. So now they lost millions, and they had to hire back 12-15 guys to manage the 2000 servers, that we once did. Now our little group wasn't the only thing outsourced... They outsourced 300 guys. Which means when they ripped out the outsourcing, IT HURT! THEY hired back more than double... I have to admit i was pretty satisfied.

p.s You can't outsource anymore, imo. its not saving enough money, and its not solving problems well enough. What you can do however, it start hiring more people in UTAH. Many years ago, I went to India to start training some of their people. At the time they were making about $3,000 a year. I asked one of my indian friends how much he made in 2009 at it was in the $30,000's. Utah is about to take off as the third silicon valley IMO. (Behind bay area and austin texas) It may have already happened. Just take a look around point of the mountain. It is insane. Adobe is building a second building. Oracle built a big new place. Everybody is building..
