and send a very specific list of prioritized instructions every night for when they came in.

I always gave them 1st, 2nd and 3rd priorities in case they hit roadblocks with higher priorities that I needed to sort out during my workday so they wouldn't sit all day twiddling their fingers.

Often they'd ignore my priority list and I'd come in and dress them down a bit. they slowly got it and it ended up pretty effective.
