That's what Utah did last year. It is very smart, actually.
The three pointer IS the great equalizer in college hoops and an easy shot at that for a deadeye shooter like Haws. It gets the crowd going as much as a thunderous dunk. Limit it and make a team work for mid-range jumpers and you can live with it more than the demoralizing drive and kick longball. Collins worth to the rim is smart as well because he will miss the layup, make it, or get fouled. If he gets fouled he has shown a propensity to miss foul shots so you trade for the point and if he makes everything you adjust accordingly to force the kickout. If you are Purdue would you rather have Haws and Fischer nailing uncontested threes all night long or play solid defense and take your chances funneling Collinsworth into the teeth of their VERY BIG men for a contested layup? Very smart indeed.
