I am actually very encouraged by what I saw from BYU in Maui
Let's be honest;

1-SDSU is easily as athletic as any team BYU will see this year, and IMO, they are more athletic than Gonzaga. The Zags are more polished than SDSU, but not as athletic. SDSU needed double OT and the help of officials to beat BYU. SDSU played out of their minds and still barely beat BYU.

2-Against Purdue the officiating was very inconsistent. Touch fouls at times, and then no calls on heavy contact. All that being said, Ty should have hit that shot. Ty rushed it a little expecting the defender to contest. I am sure that if had realized the defender was going to slip he would have made sure to get his legs completely under him.

3- There is only one team in the WCC that is on par or maybe better than SDSU and Purdue. Apart from Gonzaga, BYU should fare way better this year than last in the WCC.

4-Kyle Collinsworth is still a ways from being even 90%. As long as he didn't hurt his knee tonight, come January Kyle should be near 85-90%.

5- Very impressed with Neilson. He actually has a solid offensive game, which is something sorely lacking in the BYU bigs. IMO, he should probably be starting ahead of Luke. Neilson's BBall IQ seems very high.

6- Kafusi is very athletic, and yes, very raw. That is too be expected considering he didn't even play BBall his senior year of HS.

7-Dalton Nixon and Toolson should actually be big helps against most of the rest of BYU's opponents.

8-I really like the 4 guard line up. IMO, we will see quite a bit of that throughout the season. Apart from a 4 or 5 teams left on the schedule, most teams will have great difficulty matching BYU's 4 guard line up.

If BYU can get Kyle's legs stronger, get Fisher a little more consistent, and most importantly, give Tyler help in the closing minutes of games, BYU should have no problem winning 20-23 games the remainder of this regular season.
