...so they could be ready for him? Do you mean THAT Jake Murphy? A scholarship would've been ready for him in January and it's not like the family couldn't afford to pay his tuition for a semester. Be that as it may, he had a good career at Utah and scored a TD in the 54-10 game. In his case he made the choice that suited him. I don't hold it against him or any other player who changes their mind.

If coaches can recruit a kid to their school and then back out of their contract to take a better paying job at another school the kid should be allowed some freedom of choice as well. I think all kids should be given one freeby to be used by a certain date after their LOI was signed. Use it or lose it. If they find themselves in a bad situation, they get out of jail free one time.
