We had a basic wedge and weighted it where he said. polished the axles and it did great. I didn't bend any axles, but raised one of the front ones. I did buy tungsten weights on amazon since they are much denser and I figured I will likely have kids in pinewood derbies for years to come, so I can change them out.

we took 3rd out of 35 plus and the top guys are insanely into it with all kinds of money sunk into it.

What I liked about the video, was my son actually was able to do most of the work, including cutting the one cut to make the wedge and sanding like crazy. he measured where to drill, did the paint job, polished axles, etc... At 8 years old he did most of the work. It felt like the dads of the winning cars didn't want their sons to even touch the cars. Rather sad.
