Can't make assumptions
Scholarships are very limited for 2015. There will be a lot of RM's coming back taking up the available scholarships.

It's a very difficult juggling game. It's hard to know for sure how many new recruits you can actually sign. Some are mission first and won't count against this year's total. They don't know for sure which recruits of the ones offered will end up signing.

What if there just aren't any scholarships left? Then there will be players who won't get a scholarship from BYU this year. So some may go elsewhere. If they do, did that mean that BYU did a poor job of recruiting that kid? No, obviously not. There just wasn't a scholarship available. So then some fans will assume BYU dropped the ball on recruiting that kid.

There are a lot of commitments for 2015. There just are not enough scholarships to go around. Bronco has said that recruits have got to commit early or there may not be space left. It's a numbers game. Kids that want to come to BYU better commit if they have an offer. Because once the limit is met, the offers will go away.

If a kid who everyone thinks is a "BYU kid" and should be a BYU recruit but doesn't get offered early or not at all, it's probably due to the scholarship and numbers crunch. So when you see that situation, don't automatically assume that BYU is doing a poor job of recruiting. Keep in mind that you don't know BYU's priorities and whether or not BYU is going to have a scholarship available for that kid.

It all shakes out at the end, when the LOI's come in and we know who actually commits and who ends up elsewhere. We would dearly love to land all the "BYU kids" and all the best players but it just isn't possible to get them all.

Don't make hasty assumptions and incorrect assessments of BYU recruiting capabilities. Fans have absolutely no idea of how hard Bronco and the staff are working right now to ensure they get every player they possibly can. Recruiting is the life blood of the program and is of the utmost importance. All this silly talk of "BYU poorly recruited" or "Bronco is a poor recruiter" is misplaced and totally wrong. Bronco and his staff have done a great job, year in and year out and this year is no different.

You don't hit a home run with every recruit. Some turn out great and some don't. No one can predict which will be which. BYU is in a unique situation and has challenges and limitations in recruiting that other programs do not have. It's a tough job and takes a tremendous amount of effort. For the most part, the best players who have the most desire to come to BYU are the ones who are going to end up with the scholarships.
