In it's basic form, it works using geolocation of mulitiple devices. So, if I
put a geofence around my house, using IFTTT, I can tell when there are NO devices in the house (i.e. everyone left) and turn on a WeMo switch, or turn off my nest, etc. I haven't used it much, since I'm the only cellphone user in my household, but I could see the benefits if even my wife had a cellphone. https://www.life360.com/
