You have fallen for one of the classic woman traps - the "let's see how much he is willing to spend on me" trap - "budget" version. Although this trap can be difficult to detect, the use of the term "budget" should have tipped you off. The woman uses the term "budget" only to achieve some sort of an objective, and won't think twice about blowing right through the budget for some cute shoes that are on sale (of course).
