The style of basketball played in native villages is very similar to BYU's...
...I remember playing in the Fur Rondy Tournament years ago we played a team from Unalakleet and Nome (combined) and due to the lack of height/post presence they had almost no inside game and it became a run and gun, 3pt affair. We didn't match up well and I had my 2 worst games (from a production standpoint) of the tournament. We weren't a great run and gun/3pt team but were great in the post (me) and with guys working to get open shots off of post feeds and were a great grind it out team. We closed out games well and were undefeated going into that tourney, winning a lot of close games.

We lost to that team in the quarter finals and then played them again in the consolation finals. Both times our stupid guards got caught up in their up-tempo, run n' gun style and we never exploited their lack of a post presence. I had been averaging 25 pts a game in the tourney but scored in the low teens in those 2 losses. Those were the only 2 games we lost all season.

Out of intrigue, I hooked up with a group of guys who took a team out to a tournament in Nome Alaska and one other village and in both cases that was the style of ball played by the local teams from those areas. It was fun to play against and they were surprisingly good at it.
