I sent teh problem to a PHD in physics with over 400 patents
to his name, mainly owned by teh military...and his answer... without any questions or whining or complaining about common core...1 10/10... I gave the problem to my wife.. She has a masters in MATH... WITHOUT MITCHING OR BONING ,, Guess what she did? She wrote as one of a few answers 1 10/10. As a follow up the physicist sent a follow up email with other mixed numbers as answers as well.. ALL are correct... I, and the only two experts I asked, don't get what your problem with question is? You simply don't like the way it looks.. the question and it's answers are completely fine and justified.. That is regardless of whether or not common core has issues or not.

I can give you my math homework from several different states from the 70's and 80's with no common core.. old school math with just as many stupid problems in them... Stupid problems exist everywhere. Their intent is usually to help you or make you think outside of the box. If a problem truly is messed up, bring it to the attention of the teacher adn the text writer and they will usually get it corrected in future publications. That's how things work in education.. always has , always will. Mistakes happen.. This isn't a mistake though.
